Race Description

The Mdina 2 Spinola Xmas Road Race is the oldest road race in Malta. It was first held in 1979 with 15 participants, the route has remained unchanged. Gradually the number of participants have increased to a record field of 502 participants in 2012. It is by far the most popular road race in Malta after the Malta Marathon.

This race now has chip timing which was first introduced in 2012.

The race starts at 0730 from outside Mdina, the old capital fortified city of Malta and the finish is in Spinola bay. The distance is 10.8 (17.3km) miles and the route passes along some countryside but mainly through built up areas passing through a number of villages and along a long stretch of Malta’s coast.

The route is rather fast having a drop of 200 metres from start to finish. The route is not traffic free but is well marshaled with police and wardens.

As with the Malta Marathon each finisher gets a nice chunky medal.
