Saturday, September 11, 2027, at Malad City Park in Malad City, Idaho, the first town inside Idaho on I-15 and about 90 minutes north of the Salt Lake City airport. The second annual Malad Valley Marathon offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run, all from one 8:00 AM start.

The half runs one valley loop and the full runs it twice: a climb out of town on hard-packed dirt, wide views of barley fields, hay meadows and the mountains on both sides, then a long descent home on quiet farm roads. The 5K and 10K are paved out-and-backs. It all sits at about 4,500 feet, and race morning is usually cool, in the 40s to 50s at the gun.

We think it’s the best, most affordable, and most fun rural marathon you’ll run. Here’s what you get for the price: every 5K through full marathon entry includes a custom finisher medal, a race shirt or hat, chip timing, live tracking, five stocked aid stations, a porta-potty at each one (10K, half and full), on-course first aid, finish-line food and free race photos within 48 hours.

The Early Bird full is $70 through February 15, 2027, about $30 under the typical early price at the 22 regional and rural marathons we checked. Even our Last Call price of $90 beats or matches the final price at all 20 of them that publish one, and still sits $10 under their typical early price. Skip the shirt and register with a friend, and the Early Bird full is $57 (half $38).
