Race Description

7 Mile Trail Race
This 7 mile road and trail race starts from the playing fields of King James’s school, the undulating 7 mile course takes in both public and private roads, riverside trails in the Nidd Gorge and woodland tracks before returning to King James’s School and ending with a circuit of the athletics track and a funnelled finish .

2.5 Mile Fun Run
The 2.5 mile Fun Run route is a joyous mix of metalled road, public right of way and open school grounds with five distinct sections:
1. The mass start at the end of the school grounds gives the racers an opportunity to spread out and avoid congestion later on. After 400m of cross country, the race joins Aspin Lane until an official crossing point (where the roads are closed for the event) allows competitors to join winding paths past the Aspin estate.
2. On joining Abbey Road, the race turns west (upstream) past some of the finest wooded areas and houses in Yorkshire. The road is winding and flat for about one mile until markers point the course into the woods.
3. At this point the path is narrow, short (about 100m) but steep. It is this section that makes the trail unsuitable for child pushchairs etc.
4. Once the top of the crag is reached, the path is followed along the edge (don’t worry, hedges and fences prevent a possible fall) this time going east before re-joining Aspin Lane at the crossing point.
5. The final section follows Aspin Lane back into the school and a funnelled finish
