IWM Duxford stands apart from other aviation museums because the site is an exhibit itself. It played a central role in some of the most dramatic days in 20th century history – serving as a base for many of the Spitfire and Hurricane pilots during the Second World War.
Inside every hangar and exhibition – and outside them too – there are hundreds of large aircraft, vehicles, tanks and more. Walk around them, inside them, above and below them and discover stories about the people whose lives they have affected.
Make your own piece of Duxford history
IWM Duxford’s airfield has a story that stretches back over a hundred years.
It was here that pilots learned to fly the revolutionary bi-planes of the First World War. It was home to subsonic jet fighters during the Cold War. But it was during the Second World War that Duxford made history. By 1939, Duxford was a sector station of No.12 Group Fighter Command. Eventually a ‘Big Wing’ of five squadrons flew from Duxford and Fowlmere (Duxford’s satellite airfield), led by Squadron Leader Douglas Bader.
And it eventually became the award-winning museum we know today, home to the Duxford Dash! This unique running event challenges you to conquer the runway that made history.

Event t-shirts are available for purchase during registration, for collection at the event only.
All spectators must register to attend, with entry also including access to IWM Duxford for the remainder of the day. Children under 5 are welcome at no charge but must still be registered separately.
10K/5K runners are welcome to run in the Family Mile at no additional charge but must wear their race bib and take only one medal.
All of our events are organised following government and governing body COVID-19 guidance. We will continue to ensure that we deliver safe and enjoyable events.
Entry on the day will not be available.
