Race Description

The Brown Willy Run is held on New Year’s Day as an informal celebration of running. It’s a run, not a race. However, there is a memento for all runners, and a perpetual trophy for the first man and the first lady home. The run starts at Jamaica Inn on Bodmin Moor at 11 o’clock. There is usually a field of about 300. The course starts on a quiet country lane, and then onto a farm track, and for the bulk of the run, on moorland. The moorland section can be demanding, with either boggy or icy conditions under foot, and a steep scramble to the summit ridge of Brown Willy: the highest hill in Cornwall. The weather can be severe, so come prepared. A warm log fire welcomes you at Jamaica Inn when you return. No muddy feet in the pub please.
