Race Description

Swanage, Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast has spectacular history, landscapes and views. The course with well over 2000 feet of climbs provides a predominately off-road Marathon that is both challenging and rewarding. There will be a time limit of 7 hours with progressive course closures so please bear in mind this and the course profile when applying. The marathon is a local community event with the proceeds being distributed to local charities. We received outstanding feedback in 2012, our inaugural year, which we very much hope to replicate this year.

The Route
The marathon starts and finishes in the coastal town of Swanage. Starting on the Downs overlooking the beach, it heads towards Durlston Country Park and the Jurassic coast path before going through the villages of Worth Matravers and Kingston, past Kimmeridge and onto the deserted village of Tyneham. Climbing from there along the ridge of the Purbeck Hills towards Corfe Castle, passing below the battlements of this 11th century castle and into the village square. The route then returns to the ridgeway and heads towards Swanage to finish back on the seafront.
