Race Description

Done Marathons? Want something a bit more ‘tasty’?

A journey from the heart of the Lake District to the West Coast, through two stunning valleys and one killer climb. 35 miles (approximately) and 5800ft of ascent.

This race is based on a long distance walk ‘The St Begas Way’. It’s 95% off road, through two of the most stunning valleys in the Lake district. From the wooded shores of Bass lake, it climbs on forest tracks before heading down to the shore of Derwentwater. Through low level woods, the route hugs the lakeshore before heading south, through the Jaws of Borrowdale. Ahead the climb begins, up one of the steepest sections of track you’ll have ever seen, before climbing high over open fell and then descending into the uppermost end of the remote Ennerdale valley. Tracking the full length of this isolated and beautiful valley, the route climbs once more giving the runner their first views of the west coast over the flat and welcome ground ahead. Descending from Dent Fell, the route enters the village of St Bees, the start of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk, where a warm welcome awaits.

This route is a journey, in every sense.
