Race Description

RacingThePlanet: Iceland starts on 4 August 2013. The country of geysers, volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, fjords and green hills will provide a dramatic backdrop for the 2013 roving race. Competitors will meet in the capital city of Reykjavik. RacingThePlanet: Iceland 2013 is part of RacingThePlanet’s “roving race” series. There is one race each year which takes place in a new location each time. The first “roving race” took place in Vietnam, followed by Namibia in 2009, Australia in 2010 and Nepal in 2011. After Jordan in 2012, the next roving race is set for Iceland in August 2013.

RacingThePlanet’s “roving race” events follow the same format as the prestigious 4 Deserts series. They are 250 kilometer / 155 mile, 7-day, 6-stage endurance footraces through the most remote and culturally rich places on earth. The events are self-supported which means that competitors must carry all their own equipment and food, but are provided with water and a place in a tent each day and are supported by professional medical and operations teams. The format is very similar to the Tour de France, except by foot and self-supported.
