I totally agree that the venue for Race for Life should return to Gloucester Park. This was the 7th year my friends and I haven taken part in this fantastic event but this year was a total shambles; the traffic was horrendous and we had to abandon our lift and landed up walking from Asda, Basildon to Barleylands and most of the way back after completing the 5km, I reckon we must have walked nearer 10km!! Unfortunately, I think a lot of people will be put off by this change, please return to Gloucester Park next year. As a survivor of cancer I still want to support this amazing event. Race for Life, please, please return to Gloucester Park next year!

I agree, with what would have been no more than an half hour journey it took us almost 2 hours. Total chaos getting in, we missed the warm up and had to go straight to the start. Getting out of the car park was almost 2 hours and no organisation whatsoever. Very badly organised unlike other RFL’s. A shame as we missed getting into the real feel of the day. But well done to everyone taking part raising money for this cause.

Please return this event to Gloucester Park, as mentioned above the traffic was a nightmare, for a 5 mile journey it took 90mins. If this event stays at Barleylands I think a lot of people will be put of by the traffic. It took my friends 30mins to get out of the the car park at Barleylands after the event. When I arrived at the start I was told by a marshall to hurry up as they wanted to close the start area. I will do this event next year as long as it is back at Gloucester Park.

What a fabulous day. Very emotional. Great atmosphere. First time running the event and will do it again

Have to agree left really early to get there in time but traffic was ridiculous the race and support was amai=zing but the arae was just wrong spent four hours driving and parking and one hour running race. the traffic has put me off

What a shame you changed the venue after not moving in traffic for nearly 90 minutes I abandoned my family in the car and walked from the a127 to get there along with many other women I still didn’t make it in time so 6 of my group who did get there went without me and 4 others were even later than me and 2 gave up and went home . A total shambles the course was very muddy which was expected the grass needed cutting on many parts of the course absolutely no atmosphere on the way round as there were no spectators to cheer you on ,not like Lou ester park where they lined the route and encouraged you all the way.My work friends and I have done race for life for many years now and we have all decided we will not be doing it next year if it stays here please move it back to gloucester park

    Barleylands – Race for Life – 24th June 2012

Race start could have been organised better, there were so many people ‘start pens’ for runners joggers, walkers could have been in place rather than over 8000 heading to their start points.

Trying to get out of the car park, was appaulling, very very badly organised, if you could even call it organised, more like a free for all. Lets organised it better next year.
