Race Description

Run, jog or even just walk – this is a fun and exciting introduction to orienteering. It’s organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club and is ideal for all ages and abilities – runners, families and children too.

An orienteering race does not follow a set route. It’s like a cross country race with the added challenge of choosing your own route around the course…! You have to race between a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints may be along paths, streams or earth banks in the woods. The challenge is to decide what you think the quickest route will be between the checkpoints and then to find your own way along that route using a special orienteering map, as fast as you can.

There will be several courses to choose from, ranging from 1km for children up to 5km for runners. Help will also be available. Registration and parking will be at the Green Park centre.
