Race Description

Try a run with a difference – ideal for training or for something new and challenging! This event is organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club.

There will be several courses for runners and orienteers. The courses will take you along paths and off-path, around the park, so trainers or trail running shoes are ideal. A compass may be handy to bring, although not essential. Courses will range up to 5km, although in orienteering the course lengths are straight line distances between the control points – depending on which routes you choose between these checkpoints, you will run further than the stated distance!

Come along any time between 10am and 11.30am and we’ll get you started. You’ll receive a special orienteering map of your chosen course, showing a series of controls for you to visit in order. The challenge is choosing your route between each one, as fast as you can, registering each one with a small electronic timing chip we will lend you. When you return to the finish, your timing chip will be downloaded and you’ll get a print out of your results and split times between control points.

The cost is just £5 for adults (or £2 for under 21s and students). You can start a course any time until midday (everyone starts at staggered intervals and you can’t follow anyone else in the woods as you won’t know who is doing the same course as you!). Courses close at 1pm. Please visit our website or email us for more information (or see our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/tvoclub).
