What is The National Nurses Half Marathon & 5K?

These events are by nurses for everyone! The Inaugural National Nurses Half Marathon and 5K are running/walking events that celebrate nurses and the communities they live and work in. Come run or walk with us.

What is the National Nurses Health Institute Conference?

The National Nurses Health Conference is held Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 at our host hotel Red Rock Resort and features some of the best speakers in the industry. Open to nurses, doctors and anyone interested in increasing the number of Americans who are healthy at every stage of life. Nursing contact hours are available. You may attend the entire two day conference or attend one session. There is a fee for the conference.

What is the Sport, Health & Fitness Expo?

The National Nurses Half Marathon Sport, Health and Fitness Expo serves as your primary race packet pick-up location for both the Half Marathon & the 5K. The Expo will be held on Friday, October 11 from Noon – 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 12 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa. http://redrock.sclv.com 11011 West Charleston Boulevard Las Vegas, Nevada 89135.Local: (702) 797-7777 Toll free: (866) 767-7773. The expo will feature interactive demos, vendors, and samples targeted towards health & fitness-minded individuals. The Expo will be FREE & open to the public.

What is the route for the half marathon?

The route for the half marathon and the 5K are both in majestic Red Rock Canyon just outside of the Las Vegas strip. The half marathon route starts at the termination of the 13 mile scenic drive and ends at the visitor’s center which is actually the start of the scenic drive.

What is the route for the 5K?

The 5K will start at the finish line and is an out and back loop where the 5K will share the same finish line as the half marathon.

Is there a limit to the number of runners that can participate?

Yes, the half marathon is limited to 2,000 runners, and the 5K is limited to 500 runners. Be sure to reserve your spot and Register before we sell out.

Is there a time limit?

The half marathon time limit is 3 hours and 30 minutes (approximately a 16 minute mile pace). If you’re not on pace to finish within the time limit at the halfway point, you will have the option to be picked up or continue and finish. The 5K has a time limit of 1 hour (approximately a 19 minute mile pace). If you finish after the allotted time, we will wait for you at the finish line and every finisher receives a super cool finisher’s medal. Volunteers will remain out on the course until every runner and walker finishes.

Are there aid stations along the route?

Yes, aid stations are strategically positioned all along the half marathon and 5K routes, at mile the starts, 2, 4, 6, 8 10, 11.5 and the finish line. Don’t forget to vote at the finish line for your favorite water station and musical entertainment.

How can I get with a group to train for this race?

Yes, there are many local running clubs that you can join. Contact your nearest fitness club or running store to learn about local running teams. We also have free training programs to download for beginner and intermediate training and on-line training with a coach. To learn more, visit Training.

Will there be a race photographer?

Yes, the event will have race photographers who will be positioned throughout the course.

I am unable to participate in the half marathon. Can I transfer my Bib or receive a refund?

Unfortunately, as stated in our policy here on the website and during registration, all race entries are non-refundable.

Are strollers or wheelchairs allowed on the course?

Unauthorized bicycles, motorized vehicles, wheelchairs and strollers not permitted on the half marathon race course due to safety concerns.

Am I allowed to bring my own water bottle?

Yes. However aid station will include fresh water and electrolyte to refuel.

Are iPods, iPhones and other personal listening devices permitted?

Yes. However, for your safety, please adjust your volume so that you are aware of your surroundings at all times.

Where do I park?

Red Rock Canyon has limited parking. We are offering shuttle service from our host hotel to red rock for participants, volunteers and spectators. Please park at Red Rock Resort for shuttle to and from race venue.

How do I get to the race from the hotel?

Red Rock Canyon has limited parking. We are offering free race day shuttle service from our host hotel to Red Rock all day long for participants, volunteers and spectators. Please park at Red Rock Resort and shuttle to and from race venue.

What is the average temperature/weather?

October 82° F (28° C) – 54° F (12° C) Perception 0.25. Red Rock canyon is 10 degree cooler. Race weather is in the 60’s.

I’ll be traveling in from out of town. Do you have hotel blocks reserved?

Our host hotel is Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa a 5-Star Luxury with endless amenities. The sam elocation as teh Sport, Health and Fitness Expo. If you do not wish to stay at the Red Rock Resort, Las Vegas has 62,000 rooms on the Strip.

If I’m not running the half marathon or 5K, can I attend the Sport, Health & Fitness Expo?

Absolutely, the Sport, Health & Fitness Expo is free and open to the public on Friday, October 11, 2013 and Saturday, October 12, 2013.

Where can my friends watch me along the course?

The start and finish line locations are the best places to watch runners. There is parking at various locations in the park, but because the speed limit in the park is 25MPH, it takes about 40 minutes to drive the loop, we suggest you watch your runners at the start and finish lines.

How much of the course is asphalt versus cement?

The course is 100% soft asphalt. The road is well maintained and well groomed. Easy on the feet.

Are There Hills on the course?

Red Rock has elevation increases during the halfway point of the race. Look at the course map which includes the elevation chart. The course is challenging but with training you will achieve victory. What goes up must come down. We are all in this together. If you use our training guide and incorporate hills in your training you will be fine.

Is there an option to register at the Expo?

Expo registration will be based on availability. If either the half marathon or 5K is not sold out, on-site registration will be available at the Expo. Don’t wait until the Expo we cannot guarantee the correct shirt size and the fee is greatly increased.

What’s the best way to get updates about the 2013 races?

Where can I get coffee on the morning of the race?

We will have coffee at the start and finish line for you!

Does everyone receive a finisher’s medal and race tee shirts?

Yes indeed. Our medals are awesome and the race shirts are pretty special too.

Do volunteers get T-Shirts?

Yes, every volunteer will receive a race crew T-shirt. Volunteers are encouraged to visit the health and fitness expo.

Are there awards for runners?

The top 3 males and females overall in the half marathon and the 5K will be awarded, as well as top age group finishers in divisions 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. 1st male and female nurse in Half Marathon and 5K will also be awarded.

Do you have special programs for elite runners?

I am active duty in the military and just got orders to be shipped out. Can I transfer my registration to someone else?

No, transfers are not allowed for any registrations, however, active military who received orders may choose to either defer their entry to the following year’s race or receive a refund. Email your request with a copy of your orders to info@nationalnurseshalfmarathon.com no later than 10 days prior to event day.
