Race Description

Building on the success of the inaugural MBNA Chester Marathon in May 2010 and in response to feedback from runners, we have developed an exciting new route which incorporates Chester’s iconic landmarks and allows us to increase the number of runners.

At MBNA Chester Marathon we aim to put the runner first by organising a world class event. Our race will start and finish at Chester Racecourse which will provide a spectacular backdrop with outstanding facilities for both runners and spectators.

The route will be on closed roads with only 182m of climb, covering 17 miles in England and 9 miles in Wales. You will enjoy a great atmosphere in the city before heading out to the Cheshire and North Wales villages, returning along the banks of the River Dee for a grandstand finish at the Racecourse.

Drinks stations will be at every 2.5 to 3 miles, with bottled water and sports drinks. There will be chip timing with halfway splits. All finishers will receive a quality goody bag, as well as a technical T-shirt and a bespoke medal.

Chester, as an international destination city, has much to offer visitors, including the Roman walls and amphitheatre, shopping on its unique split-level Rows dating from the Middle Ages, the famous Eastgate Clock, museums and the world renowned Chester Zoo.
