Race Description

The 10 Peaks Brecon race is a run/trek over a set route through the Brecon Beacons National Park. You will have to navigate yourself round the course, visiting the 10 mandatory Peaks in the set order (plus the other mandatory checkpoints) and cross the finish line within a 24 hour time limit.

Clif Bar 10 Peaks Brecon Beacons
89km/ 4800m ascent/ 24 hours

Starting from race headquarters in Talybont-on-Usk, you will head out to the western extreme of the course, the Black Mountain, traversing along the way some spectacular ridgelines, tackling some torrid climbs and passing over 2 of the 10 highest peaks (Fan Fawr and Fan Llia). There will be 3 feed stations along this section of the course that will help prepare you for the tough long ascent of Fan Brycheiniog and then Bannau Sir Gaer, at the furthest point west on the course. From here you will be able to look east and see just how far you have travelled (and how far you still have to go!). You will then begin your return journey following a more northerly route back to Talybont, which although shorter than the first half, will seem a lot tougher. There are only 2 feed stations on the way back and 6 peaks still to bag. Some very painful climbs on tired legs will see you across the most stunning and dramatic looking landscape in South Wales.

Clif Bar 10 Peaks Brecon Beacons Short Course
58km/ 3000m ascent/ 24 hours

The short course follows the official 10 Peaks route out as far as the second feed station on the Sarn Helen trail. It then heads north along the trail to rejoin the official route with 17 miles to go (missing out a 20 mile loop of the official course that takes in the Black Mountain and the very tough ascent of Fan Gyhirych). Do not worry though, we have ensured that the most spectacular parts of the Brecon Beacon National park are not missed out by those competing on the shorter route. We have added a few peaks too, just to boost the number of Peaks back up to 10 (this is a 10 Peaks race after all!). This is by no means an easy day out. Rest assured that this will have a 25 to 35% dropout rate!
