Race Description

The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, taking place on 1 October 2023, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful marathons in the world, following a spectacular point to point route alongside Loch Ness in the Highlands of Scotland. No wonder it’s on the bucket list of so many runners around the world!

There’s also the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K, both races follow flat routes alongside the river in Inverness and are perfect for PB chasers and first timers alike, a 10K Corporate Challenge for teams of 4-6 employees from the same workplace and a Wee Nessie kids’ race for under 5s.

The Festival of Running kicks off on Saturday with an Expo for all those last minute running essentials and a Runners Cafe where you can join BBC Scotland’s Bryan Burnett for a series of Q&A sessions with running experts or chill and chat with other runners listening to live music.

Why not make a Highland weekend of it and come with family or friends? The area is steeped in history, home to castles, whisky distilleries, misty mountains and, of course, the Nessie herself. Activities in the Scottish Highlands range from challenging hill walks to kayaking, dolphin spotting boat trips to distillery visits.

With a choice of race distances and festival atmosphere, a free Expo, Runners Cafe, live music, pipe bands, street food and kids activities, the Festival of Running truly has something for everyone.

Don’t just take our word for it…. “The Loch Ness Marathon was my first every marathon and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Don’t just think about it… do it!” 2022 Runner
