Race Description

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, runners, walkers, and bikers will set off on the 12th annual Race for the Kids, a joint duathlon and 5K to benefit the Oblong Children’s Christian Home. The race will begin and end at the City Park in Hutsonville, IL.

Participants will choose either to participate in the duathlon (2-mile run, 20-mile bike ride, and concluding 2-mile run) or in the 5K (3.1-mile loop through town). The cost for either race (if postmarked by May 17) is $25 per person. After May 17, registration prices increase to $30 per person.

If participating in the duathlon, you may chose to compete as a team (one biker and one runner). Entry forms must be submitted together. Pricing structure does not change for teams: $50 per team if registering by May 17 and $60 per team if registering after May 17.

Awards will be presented immediately following each race (5K and duathlon) in the following age categories: 10 and under, 11 – 20, 21 – 30, 31 – 40, 41 – 50, 51 – 60, and 61 and over. Also receiving recognition will be the overall 5K winners (male and female), overall duatlon individual winners (male and female), and the overall duathlon team winners.

Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt (guaranteed only to those who register by May 17) a finisher medal, a goody bag, and post-race refreshments. In addition, participants will be eligible for randomly drawn door prizes.

The duathlon course is flat and fast. The first two miles are straight out and back routes on blacktop pavement (flat). Following those miles, the bike path includes gentle rolling hills. The final two miles are the same straight out and back miles.

Note that entry fees are nonrefundable.
