Race Description

Come out and participate or volunteer for the 12th Annual Dismal Swamp Stomp Half Marathon, 5k and the Children’s Half-Mile Cub Run, in beautiful Chesapeake, Virginia, on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The flat 13.1-mile course will take runners on a spectacular wilderness journey through lush, mysterious landscape and rich history.
Stomp through forested wetlands on a peaceful paved path along the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Running parallel to the course is the Dismal Swamp Canal, part of the famed Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
All race participants receive a custom race T-shirt and all finishers receive a finisher medal. In both the 5K and Half Marathon, our signature custom carved heron awards will be given to: the top three overall male and female and the top three overall male and female runners in each age group. Top three male and female walkers also receive an award. We are giving away $4,000 in prize money! The prize money goes to the top 5 overall male and female age graded winners in the half marathon.
Stick around for great post-race party with beer, music food and awards. All participants 21 and over are invited to enjoy beer from Chesapeake’s favorite Big Ugly Brewery. This year’s live entertainment will consist of music by the band Milk Crate Mafia.
All volunteers can opt to receive a letter documenting their community service hours.
