Race Description

This is an annual race with a difference! It’s organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club. For starters, an orienteering race does not follow a set route. Instead you have to visit a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints may be along streets, alleyways, behind bushes in the areas of parkland or even around the Ladygrove lakes. The challenge is to decide what you think the quickest route will be between the checkpoints and then to run your own way along that route using a special orienteering map, as fast as you can.

Just how well do you know the intricate streets and parkland of the Ladygrove estate? Well, now’s your chance to test yourself in the exciting Didcot Urban Race!

The race takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 25 August. It’s ideal for all ages and abilities, including runners and local residents too. Run or jog, there will be several courses to choose from, ranging from 1km for children (in a traffic free area) to over 7km for the open course. However, the courses are measured in straight line distances between checkpoints and you’ll actually run around 50% further. Everyone starts at staggered one minute intervals, so just turn up and register any time between 10am and midday.

Help will also be available. Check out the flyer on our website for more info.
